Top 5 iOS Navigation Apps in South Africa: Q4 2024 Performance

In the fourth quarter of 2024, the top navigation and maps applications on iOS in South Africa demonstrated varied performance in terms of downloads and active users, as reported by Sensor Tower.

Google Maps maintained a strong presence with a noticeable increase in downloads, peaking at about 22.5K in the last week of December. The app also saw fluctuations in weekly active users, starting at approximately 827K and ending at 832K, with a peak of over 908K in early December.

Waze Navigation & Live Traffic experienced a gradual rise in downloads, reaching around 6.5K in mid-December. Active users showed a steady increase, peaking at over 215K in early December before settling at 177K by the end of the quarter.

Google Earth saw a late surge in downloads, culminating in nearly 4.8K during the final week of December. Active users increased from 16.7K to over 20K by the end of the quarter, with a notable rise throughout November and December.

GPS Field Area Maps: FieldCalc showed consistent weekly revenue, averaging around $300 to $400. Downloads saw a dip, dropping to 202 in late December. Active users remained stable, fluctuating slightly around 6.3K.

Finally, Petal Maps – GPS & Navigation had a more modest performance, with downloads peaking at 334 in late November. Active users saw a gradual increase, reaching over 8.2K in late November before a slight decline to 6.6K by year-end.
